Restoration Work

Turning this tired and neglected Davenport. . .

 . . . into this magnificent piece!!

When the Davenport arrived it looked as though it had spent years in a damp dark dusty cellar!

It had water damage.

Most of the drawer knobs, and half of the gallery were missing.

The veneer was badly damaged , feet and lock were missing, as was the leather on the writing slope.

The overall piece had been badly treated and it was in much need of care and attention.

After the initial assessment the piece was stripped and repaired.

New feet and door knobs were turned.

The top was re-veneered and the gallery renewed.

The writing slope was repaired, veneered and had new lock and leather fitted.

The internal secret drawer together with locking mechanism was repaired.

The repaired piece was then blended and French polished back to its former glory.

The whole process took 45 hours over a three week period to allow for drying times.

Davenport in poor condition before restoration.

Davenport in fine order after restoration
